Human Rights in Bhutan???

EVery citizen in Bhutan live in fear of arrest and torture every day. No one has any courage to speak of against government. Even the people who write articles in this forum know about the wickedness of the government but they are afraid to speak our against. Judiciary system of Bhutan functions under the direct command of King, which has been never known to declare any government action unlawful. Provision for defense attorneys, lawyers, solicitors and jury trial are non-existent. All the Bhutanese citizens, including National Assembly members lose their nationality or face capital punishment if they criticize the King and his government. The King and his government are above law and supreme in the legal system.
Even viewing of television was prohibited until 1999. There is no newspaper except one weekly bulletin owned by the government and the transparency on the government action is non-existent. All media are used for only campaigning the government propaganda. They publish and broadcast only what the government wants the people to read, hear and know.

There is no official guarantee for the protection of citizens’ human rights. The Bhutanese people are not secure and do not enjoy even the basic human rights.

Driglam Namza
Driglam Namza, an ancient code of social etiquette of the western Bhutanese which dictates how to eat, how to sit, how to talk, how to dress or how to bow before the authority, and what hair style to adopt, was made mandatory to all the Bhutanese despite their cultural diversity. Through the village headmen, Driglam Namza was imposed on the masses. Any failure to observe the code was punishable by a week imprisonment or a fine.

here’s junior moderator’s latest crazy idea
lets form a party on this website. we’ll draft our own manfesto, have our own policies and we can also have members standing for party posts. although not a real party it will be nice to see whether we have what it takes to form a party
how about some names for the party?
then we will have some sppeches and we will choose a leader
help make this successful

Broadband internet in town - FINALLY

This is good news for IT future of Bhutan as broad band is important for the industry. Now only thing left is for price to drop to competitive levels.

BT October 10, 2007 -Thimphu: Good bye to the snail-fast dial up days.

Druknet is launching broadband internet services in six pockets: Thimphu, Phuentsholing, Paro, Wangduephodrang, Trongsa and Kanglung. While dialup needs a dedicated telephone line, broadband technology offers at least double the speed without disrupting telephone use. With the installation already completed, Druknet is upgrading the international bandwidth which would speed up internet services.

Tshering Norbu, IP Infrastructure manager of Druknet, told BT that, “the introduction of broadband will solve the current speed limitations of especially the dialup users and bring many more additional services like internet TV on its platform.” The connection would be fast enough to download a movie from the internet in minutes. But the rates are going to be dearer.

The cheapest in the scheme is a monthly subscription of Nu 1,000 with a speed of 256 kbps. A customer can download and upload 500 megabytes of information. That means a broadband user cannot download a complete movie with a monthly subscription. The customer will have to pay Nu 3 for every additional megabyte of upload or download.

Druknet will provide circuit bandwidth ranging from 256 kbps to 2 mbps (2,000kbps). The software industry in Bhutan will immensely benefit as ‘broadband penetration’ is considered an indicator of economic development.

Our Ministers - Our future Political Leaders??? When are they planning to Resign?

With the talk of politics everwhere one goes it remains to be seen when our ministers who claim, by not retiring but planning on participating in next year’s election, are our leaders in the democractic Bhutan will finally resign and take their rightful place. What they are doing now makes me recall what they did in December 2003 - leaders taking the back seat. No bhutanese will forget what happened that year. Our ministers, so called our leaders, at Dochula bid farewell to HM the 4th Druk Gyalpo to lead our army and militias against the ULFAs. While HM risked his life for the bhutanese people our ministers remained within the confinement of the secured residents at the capital.

Today when our young aspiring leaders of tomorrow have sacrified and risked what little they have to participate in the coming democracy elections our ministers, most of whom earlier said politics was not of their interest, do not want to lose power and if they had their way would like to hold on to their ministership till the election day.

When given the power by HM to choose the leaders we want for a democractic Bhutan should we choose leaders with qualities our present ministers pose? We really have to make the correct decision when entrusted with the power to choose the leaders for a better Bhutan for our children.

money is everything. At least to me, How do you make it?

First off I want to say hello to everyone and I’m excited to be here.

Do You want to make a good amount of money online and You’ve tried a few things and have gotten nowhere so far?

Do you want to know if this is how it was for some of you guys and what you did thay maid you go from nothing to everything or atleast from nothing to some success.
Someone is making a lot of money on the adult industry. Why not you?

Money IS everything. Atleast to me. How do you make it?
I am a supervior of marketing so I get questioned a lot about “What do you want to do with your life?” or “what do you want to be?” My response is whatever makes the most money. I have come across some people who think that I can be serious. They say that money wont make you happy. I don’t believe that. Everything that i don’t like about my current situation, could be solved or at least greatly improved with money.

Here is one example of what I’m talking about:

“You can’t buy friends.”
-That is true, but people would want to be with me more if we could go out and do things that are fun, instead of just sitting around at someones house.

Something else that I don’t agree with, being that I’m a college student. I don’t like the question, “what are you going to major in?” My reason is, all of the majors that I am smart enough to persue don’t make as much money as I would like to one day have. My feeling is that college is setting you up to enter a career and earn a set range for a salary for the rest of your time in that career. I do not like that idea. Maybe I’m wrong here, but according to what I’ve said, wouldn’t the jobs with the best chance to gain substantial amounts of money(although risky) be artists, musicians, actors, models, authors, and things like that? Maybe something that has to do with business if you have a good enough idea?

What do you think about my point of view?

Do you have any pointers for making the most amount of money possible

Do You want to make a good amount of money online and You’ve tried a few things and have gotten nowhere so far?

Do you want to know if this is how it was for some of you guys and what you did thay maid you go from nothing to everything or atleast from nothing to some success.

I look forward to talking to everyone.

Religious Freedom!

My name is Samuel Adair. I am from South Africa. I was just curious as to the degree of religious freedom that is allowed in your country. I would really like to get a perspective from someone who lives in Bhutan. I know that the countries official religion is buddism, but I was wondering if there were any out there that practiced Christianity. I would appreciate any responses.

America was in war for more than a decade because of racism, Gremans are still hated by Jews for their brutal act and United Kingdom used Asian and African as their belongings. Today the world has changed, Jews have their own country, Barack Obama is the new president and United Kingdon has the second largest Indian population after India. These big countries have all suffered, many thousand lost their lives and still hundreds suffering till today. BBC interviewed an army General, who was Hitler’s personal guard back than and he reminisces the time when he burnt down hundreds of women and children just because they were Jews. He cried on the camera for each statement he gave and just one week from the interview he died. Remember the black man who said “Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. It is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding; it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destrous community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends by defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers.” You guessed it right…his name is Dr. Martin Luther King.
Lets face the fact, we are a small country with just a handful of people and we follow Buddhism. We are taught to be compassionate, pray for others and restrain any wrong doings that will hurt the other party. Just some years ago we were at wars and even today we cant be ignorant about the terrorism activities in our country. Are we divided despite His Majesties simple vision of One Country, One People. Think it over Bhutanese people where we are heading towards. Word like “Ngalong” “Sharchop” “Jaga” “Ngolope” are all misleading and very irrational. Most amazing is small children’s using these words, who taught them these? I am sure not their teachers. I have a friend and her Mom is working with one of the schools in Thimphu. She is a lhotsham teacher teaching for class 4 students. She was called “Jaga” by two class three students who are very young for punishing them. How would she feel and how would you feel? Lets make a change, lets unite together, lets give a simple gift to our King and show him that we really are happy. Tashi Delek

I wonder if there is anyone out there who has an interest in and knowledge of Bhutan’s system of honours, awards and medals?

Information is difficult to come by, so the following is all I have been able to find so far:

Druk Yuelgyel (Victory of the Thunder Dragon): the highest military medal of honour awarded for outstanding dedication, loyalty and commitment (postnominal=DYG).
Druk Thuksey (Son of the Heart of the Thunder Dragon): instituted by King Jigme Singye Wangchuck on 2nd June 1999 as the highest individual civilian decoration and awarded for outstanding services to “Tsa-Wa-Sum”, the king, country and the people.
Drakpoi Wangyel: medal of honour awarded to members of the Royal Bhutan Army and the Royal Bhutan Police (post nominal=DW).
Drakpoi Thuksey: a meritorious service medal awarded to members of the Royal Bhutan Army, Royal Bodyguard, National Militia, Royal Bhutan Police, and Forest Guards and the uniformed civilian services to reward services to maintaining national security (post nominal=DT).
Drakpoi Khorlo: a meritorious service medal awarded to members of the Royal Bhutan Police and to reward services to maintaining law and order (post nominal=DK).

If there is anyone who can provide more detailed information as to the exact names, translation into English, conditions for award, classes, etc, I would welcome hearing from you at the following e-mail address:

Living in refugee camps didn’t bothered me coz all knew was only refugee camp. Barefoot and nakedness didn’t affect me coz I don’t know how it feels to be with shoes and clothes. Hunger has nothing to do me coz I have been eating stinking rice my whole life. Taste of sitting on bench in school, I have not even dreamed of it. But my gratitudes to RGOB that just coz of you now I am going to a country where milk and honey is flowing.

Thank you Bhutan for evicting my parent coz I don’t remember what you did. Although you raped my mom and my aunt I don’t remember. May be my dad is still in Bhutan as high ranking officer. But coz of your barbaric behavior, door like USA has opened for me where I am going with respect and dignity as human being. I am so proud that I don’t have to go back to Bhutan where southerners are treated like slaves.

But I will surely come back to Bhutan not to fight agianst my country but as tourist. I will visit my father’s birth places. May be I will even go and see spot where my mom, my aunty and sisters were raped.
Good luck Bhutan.

Don’t Let Moaist in Bhutan

Hi, I wanted to share some information. Moaist supporter in Refugee camps are forcing ordinary young people to go back to Bhutan. Many of those selfish leaders have already registered for third country resettlement. But they are still brain washing ordnary innocent youth to fight with Bhutan. It is my request that southern Bhutan will not like 1990s again. My prayer is that southerner and northerners live in peace.
We were mislead by wicked leaders who wanted fame for themselve without even thinking about the consequences. We suffered coz of their selfish motives.
Do not let them in Bhutan anymore.

I still love Bhutan.
